About the Vrije Universiteit Brussel

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel is a Dutch-speaking university located in Brussels. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel was formed by the splitting in 1970 of the Universitéit Libre de Bruxelles, a university independent from the church and state founded in 1834 by the Flemish lawyer Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen.

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel continues this tradition as reflected in the university's motto Scientia vincere tenebras ("conquering darkness by science") and in its slogan Redelijk eigenzinnig ("reasonably opinionated"). The three central missions of the university are education, research, and service to the community. It is a strongly research-oriented institute.

The LANMAN Workshop will take place at the Etterbeek campus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the main campus of the university, in the "Promotion Room" of Building D (Room D.2.01) . See Travel Information for detailed directions to Campus Etterbeek.
